Early detection saves lives

About the Foundation

The Foundation was founded by Maria Adamchuk-Korotitska, who twice overcame breast cancer. The head of the Foundation is convinced that victory over the disease and continuation of a full life became possible precisely because of early detection.
"I really want to shout to the whole world the phrase 'Early detection saves lives.' Because I am proof of that. I had to fight breast cancer twice, but in both cases, conscious attitude towards my health and timely examination saved me. That is why I always emphasize the importance of prevention. This is something that does not require a lot of time or money, but truly saves lives," says Maria Adamchuk-Korotitska, the head of the Cancer Fighting Fund.

PROGRAM "OUTREACH SCREENING FOR CERVICAL CANCER IN WOMEN"

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide and the second most common cancer in women living in less developed regions. Almost 5000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in Ukraine each year, and half of them die from the disease. The main reason for such high incidence and mortality is the lack of preventive measures (vaccination against human papillomavirus) and low levels of detection of precancerous conditions and cervical cancer in the early stages.
Our organization is dedicated to systematic screening for cervical cancer. Over the years (both in peacetime and wartime), we have conducted about 50 outreach trips to villages in Volyn region to screen women for cervical cancer, examining over 2000 women. During these trips, we identified cancer in dozens of women and precancerous conditions in over five hundred.

PROGRAM "OUTREACH SCREENING FOR SKIN CANCER IN ADULT POPULATION"

Skin cancer is a insidious disease that progresses rapidly if not detected and treated in a timely manner. Our team of doctors carries out outreach trips to remote areas of Volyn region and screens men and women for skin cancer and related pathologies. These screenings are completely free for the population. During the course of the program, over 1500 residents of Volyn have been screened for skin cancer.
Experience in socially and economically developed countries (USA, Western Europe) shows that systematic work towards early detection can effectively reduce the incidence and mortality rates of cancer. The most important role in this process is played by purposeful and persistent anti-cancer efforts, one of which is high-quality screening.

PROGRAM "IMPROVING THE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL OF MEDICAL WORKERS"

In Ukraine, the main indicators of early cancer diagnosis and treatment quality are 2-2.5 times lower than in developed countries. In particular, during the first year after diagnosis, twice as many patients die than in Western European countries.
Based on the analysis of the main trends in the treatment of cancer patients, it becomes evident that in some Western European and North American countries, health care systems have been able to achieve first stabilization, and then a reduction in mortality from the most common visual malignancies. This is primarily due to the full-scale implementation of national screening programs.

ADVOCACY FOR APPROVAL OF LOCAL TARGETED PROGRAMS ON PREVENTION OF CERVICAL CANCER THROUGH VACCINATION OF GIRLS AGED 9-14

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. Our foundation is actively working towards advocacy for the creation and support of targeted vaccination programs for girls against the human papillomavirus.
The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the cause of cervical cancer, an infection that is transmitted sexually. Two types of HPV, types 16 and 18, are responsible for more than 70% of cervical cancer cases. The vaccine protects against the most dangerous types of the human papillomavirus (types 6, 11, 16, and 18), which prevent the development of cancers associated with these viruses and is currently the most effective means of preventing this disease.
